Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Party

The National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and the joys of reading, expects more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read.
To celebrate the fun and value of reading, the Town of Taos and sponsors are asking you to join NEA and many of America’s leading literacy, youth, and civic groups in bringing a nation of readers together under one hat, the red and white stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat, for a flurry of reading excitement!
The Free Birthday Party for Dr. Seuss is Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Taos Youth & Family Center located at 407 Paseo del Canon East for children of all ages. Children attending the party will receive a children’s book and reading backpack (while supplies last). Special guests will be The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Blue BearSM from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, and Thing 1 and 2. Dress up as your favorite Dr. Seuss Character (a prize for the first 10 children). Prizes are donated by Walgreens.
Councilwoman Corilia Ortega will be the master of ceremonies.
The Storytime schedule is as follows: reading of How to help the Earth by Elias Cisneros, Recreation Specialist, My Amazing Body by Dr. Alana Benjamin, Family Practice Physician, reading of Hop on Pop by Councilmember Darien Fernandez, reading of You Are My I Love You, Tu Eres Mi Yo Te Quiero by Councilwoman Corilia Ortega, reading of Fox in Socks and reading of Baloney (Henry P.) by the Cat in the Hat, reading of Happy Birthday To You! by Mayor Pascualito Maestas, and reading of NEA’s Read Across America Proclamation by Mayor Pascualito Maestas. Additional readings will be provided by Taos Academy Charter School National Honor Society students. Participants will sing Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss and enjoy birthday cupcakes.
Ongoing activities include balloon animals, bowling, craft making, face painting, games and much, much more. Our goal is to show America’s children the joy of reading and building a nation of readers on or about Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and every day. You do not want to miss this fun-filled birthday party!
